Why Study the IB Diploma at Ionios School?

At Ionios School we strongly believe that life in the 21st century will require students to be internationally-minded and to have well-developed critical thinking skills. With this in mind, we have developed an excellent IB Diploma programme that promotes the aims and objectives of the IB philosophy, and aims to help students develop all the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile.

We have highly-qualified teachers, all of whom have attended one or more IB, and/or IB-endorsed workshops so as to teach on the Diploma programme. They are an International, academic team, some of whom, apart from being experienced in IB teaching, are also IB examiners and teacher trainers. However, above all they were selected for their ability to present complex ideas in a simple and straightforward manner, and because they are all committed to the IB philosophy. Several of the teachers bring experiences from the workplace in the classroom, thus enriching the students’ life skills.

All classes, except the languages, are taught in English. Classes are small and no one needs to resort to private lessons. The teachers are all dedicated professionals who give extra time to students that require additional help. The classrooms were all recently (2010) renovated, and this renovation will continue, and equipped with all the up-to-date teaching techniques, mirroring university environments. This creates numerous new opportunities for learning and makes the transition to university life easier. Another special factor is that the Ionios Music Department is the first Greek IB World School to have constructed its own purpose-built studio.

At Ionios School we make sure that all students develop a strong International perspective because we have worked hard to make sure that this is an area that is emphasized throughout the programme, particularly an appreciation of other cultures and points of view. This is done in a variety of ways, amongst others by participating in Model United Nations and Model European Parliament conferences. As well as this International perspective, students will learn about their own culture(s) and develop their knowledge and understanding of their own language to a much greater depth.

The CAS programme at Ionios School enables students to be active in the wider community and become part of an international network of like-minded educators and students. ToK is taught by someone who regularly leads international workshops in ToK teacher training for a range of organizations, mainly the IB itself.

We organize a Study Skills week prior to the start of the academic year that provides valuable skills to the students to prepare them to actively make the most of their programme.

Having been a private school for over 100 Years, Ionios School has been able to gradually build up the expertise and infrastructure needed to offer a highly attractive IB Diploma Programme.

The location of the school is ideal; apart from being reachable from various parts of the city, and offering transport to and from the school, in a quiet neighborhood in Filothei, and the school cultivates a warm family environment.
