Why Study the IB Diploma at Ionios School?
At Ionios School we strongly believe that life in the 21st century will require students to be internationally-minded and to have well-developed critical thinking skills. With this in mind, we have developed an exceptional IB Diploma programme that promotes the aims and objectives of the IB philosophy and ensures that students develop all the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile.
We have highly-qualified teachers, all of whom have attended IB, and/or IB-endorsed workshops to teach on the Diploma programme. They are an international, academic team, and apart from being experienced in IB teaching, many of them are also IB examiners; but above all they were selected for their ability to present complex ideas in a simple and straightforward manner, and their commitment to the IB philosophy. In addition to that, several of our teachers bring experience from the workplace into the classroom, thus enriching the students’ life skills.
All classes, except the languages, are taught in English. Classes are small and no one needs to resort to private lessons. The teachers are all committed professionals who will dedicate more time to students who might require additional help. In our programme you are not a number but a person, staff know students and are able to offer the kind of support that is required. Ionios School provides for a smooth transition between school and university. The school’s aim is to utilize teaching methods mirroring those of university. This creates numerous new opportunities for learning and makes the shift to university life easier. Another distinctive factor is that the Ionios Music Department is the first Greek IB World School to have constructed its own purpose-built studio.
We organize a Study Skills week prior to the start of the academic year that provides the students with valuable skills, thus enabling them to make the most of their programme. This includes developing the time management and study skills for the work that lies ahead.
At Ionios School we make sure that all students develop a strong international perspective because this is an area that is emphasized throughout the programme, particularly an appreciation of other cultures and points of view. We participate in Model United Nations and Model European Parliament conferences. We aim for these activities not only help our students develop an international perspective, but also give them the opportunity to learn about their own culture(s) and deepen their knowledge and understanding of their own language and heritage.
The CAS programme at Ionios School enables students to be active in the wider community and become part of an international network of like-minded educators and students.
Having been in operation for over 100 Years, Ionios School has been able to build up the expertise and infrastructure required to offer a highly effective IB Diploma Programme. This is reflected by the results achieved and by the fact that most of our students have achieved admission to their first choice of university.
The location of the school is ideal, in the quiet neighborhood of Filothei, which is easy to reach from most parts of the city. Transport to and from the School is offered as well.
At Ionios we focus on cultivating a warm family environment in peaceful surroundings to study in, for our students to prepare themselves for university life.
