This EYP International Session was probably one of the most interesting experiences I have ever had. EYP is a unique network of young people passionate about European politics and global issues which are at the forefront of the world in the last decade. Climate change, regional development, gender equality and educational reformation are just some of the topics dealt with during those nine days.

All EYP sessions start with teambuilding: a day devoted to getting to know the rest of your committee, which could be people from all over the world. REGI (Committee on regional development) was my committee, consisting of people with ethnicities ranging from Azerbaijan and Slovenia to the UK and Czech Republic. Our topic revolved around affordable housing, and we focused our Committee work (second stage of the session) on the possible ways in which the rights of tenants and landlords all across Europe could be handled.

For me, one of the most important parts of EYP is the engagement. I have never felt so empowered and engaged when it comes to sharing knowledge and opinions with people from totally different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities, and I have never gained so much from serious conversations, which impact a more complex and developed way of thinking. Sometimes, it was easier to discuss such issues with such people, who could really understand your thinking and respect you, rather than with people inside a school environment for example. Towards the end of the session, I realised that collaboration, especially among people with so divergent, and possibly contrasting, views is actually the key to arriving at a unanimous resolution, which has the potential to impact the way the EU member states operate.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who loves socialising and communicating with people from all around the world, who they night think can become a better person after the sessions, as this is what I value most about EYP, the fact that every session leaves you with a different “me” than the one you started with.
